One of my professors was awesome enough to share this story with my class so I figured I'd share it with everyone else!
Matt met Kim his first year at college. He thought she was gorgeous with her long dark hair and firey personality. Matt had never felt this way before about anyone. They soon began dating and Matt couldn't of been happier. So when Christmas time came around Matt wanted to get Kim the perfect gift. For hours he searched through stores, but nothing he saw seemed to be special enough to give to his lovely Kim. Finally, as the day was coming to an end, Matt found a little jewerly store that he had never seen before. He went in and automatically was drawn to a case that held a beautiful golden locket. He could imagine the necklace hanging from Kim's neck and couldn't imagine anything more lovely. So he had the shop keeper wrap it up for him and he took it home. When the time came for him to give the gift to Kim, she absolutely loved it. Matt helped her put it on and he decided he had never seen anything more beautiful. Months went by and Matt realized things between him and Kim were changing, his feelings were not as strong a they used to be. Finally, Kim and Matt decided the best thing to do was to break up.
As time went by, Matt met Lisa. Lisa was beautiful with short blonde hair and a shy personality. After a couple months of getting to know each other, Matt made Lisa his girlfriend. He had never felt this way about anyone as he felt about Lisa. Soon after dating, Lisa's birthday came up, and Matt wanted to get his Lisa something really special. Something that she would never forget. He looked all day at every store he could think of, but couldn't find anything good enough. At the end of the day, he found himself back at that little jerwerly store. He looked around, but once again he found himself looking at the golden locket in the case. He could picture the brilliant gold standing out with Lisa's golden hair and pale skin, so once again he had the shop keeper wrap up the necklace and Matt brought it home for Lisa. When she opened it, she was so excited. She told Matt that she loved him and that she had never recieved and better gift. Matt and Lisa were together for almost a year, and everytime she wore that necklace, Matt noticed the beauty of the gold and the way it shined. But after some time, the brilliance of the gold began to fade, and so did his feelings for Lisa. After some time to think, Matt ended things with Lisa.
While Matt was in college, he had many girlfriends that came and went. If and occasion came up that required a gift he always found himself back at that little jewerly store looking at the golden locket. He truly did try to find something different, but the necklace always seemed like the perfect thing to give to his girl at the time.
At the beginning of his senior year, Matt met Amber. He feel heads over heels for her. They dated thoughout the rest of the year and graduated together. Matt loved her with all his heart and on their one year anniversary, Matt propsed to Amber. She eagerly said yes and Matt couldn't have been happier. They both decided that after the ceremony, they woulf each exchange a gift to express their love for each other. Once again, Matt looked for the perfect gift. He searched for weeks to find something unique and special for his lovely Amber. However, nothing seemed right, so he made his way back to the little jewerly store. And once again, he found himself asking the shop keeper to wrap up that golden necklace.
The big day finally came and Matt knew without a doubt this was the happiest day of his life. After the ceremony, Matt and Amber were alone and they exchanged their gifts as they promised. As Amber opened her gift, she was so excited and eagerly put it on. When she asked Matt how it looked he told her it looked gorgeous. And it really did, but Matt noticed that it didnt seem as bright as it used to. And then Matt suddenly wished that he had been able to give the love of his life something more special and unique on their wedding night. Something that he hadn't already shared with others.
Okay so obviously this story isn't about a necklace. Pretty much my whole life I've known premarital sex isn't right. But I was always taught in a way that was more political then spiritual. It was always because there was a risk of attracting a disease or pregnancy or getting your heart broken. This story helped me put into perspective that the reason I should wait til marriage is because I know that God has someone out there lined up for me that is perfect and designed for me. However, there are two people in a relationship, and if i want that special someone to be perfect for me, i need to be equally perfect for them. If I allowed myself to get caught up in the moment, I'm not being fair to the person that God has waiting out there for me. Even if the person I was with was the One, it would make it all the more special if we waited until after we were married, to be able to share a gift that is only truly the most brilliant the first time that its given out.
